Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Ona Judge Staines

Ona Judge has come to symbolize the story of millions of African-Americans who were held in slavery, and the thousands who declared their own independence.

Ona Judge came to Philadelphia in 1790, the enslaved servant of Martha Custis Washington.  In 1796, she escaped, and remained a free woman until her death in 1848.
