I started the RememberTheWomen project in 2016, in part as a celebration of Hillary Rodham Clinton's historic run for the U.S. presidency, in part because I was still struck by how many people still ignored or discounted the phenomenal contributions of women in history. Remembering Virginia Woolf's statement that "For most of history, Anonymous was a woman," I began to research women in Philadelphia's history and nominate them for historic markers. As this project grows, we plan to add other projects: more markers, tours, publications, and this website to allow all of us to celebrate these women's lives, writings, accomplishments, and too-often overlooked contributions.
I'm always happy to hear about ideas, about people who want to volunteer to contribute, and about new ways that we can #RememberTheWomen!

This East Prospect of Philadelphia shows the world Elizabeth Sandwith Drinker knew well. The Drinker home, just north of Elfreth's Alley on Front Street, was the setting for her massive, detailed diary account of early Philadelphia.
